Eyelashes do fall out. Just ask anyone who wears contact lenses. Some people suffer from a condition called “madarosis”, or a severe loss of eyelashes. Losing eyelashes in clumps is also a symptom of hypothyroidism.

Eyelashes do grow back in about 4-8 weeks normally. Some people suffer from a chronic thinning of the eyelashes, and some for cosmetic reasons just want thicker longer lashes. There is a substantial body of evidence that some prostoglandins used in the treatment of glaucoma can stimulate the regrowth and thickening of eyelashes.

Products that are based on prostoglandins include Lumigan and Latisse, both require a prescription. A product called LiLash is available without a prescription and users claim it causes less irritation than brands.

So the answer to the question “do eyelashes grow back?” is yes. Sometimes, with a little help, they even get longer and stronger.
